WVJH boys dominate invitational


The Westview Jr. High boys track team won seven relay races and three indi­vidual events to breeze to the team championship in its own invitational meet last Friday night in Emma.

The Warriors piled up 152 points, 31.5 more than runner-up West Noble (121.5). Wawasee (78) was a distant third.

Westview relay units grabbed top honors in the 800-meter (1:46.60), 1600-meter mixed (4:15.80), 3200-me­ter (9:15.00), 800 sprint medley (1:56.50), 6th/7th grade medley (1:56.60), 1600-meter sprint medley (4:11.60) and 440-meter shuttle (1:12.50) compe­titions. The Warriors took second in the 400-meter re­lay (51.40).

Winning individual blue ribbons for Westview were Daniel Yoder in the 2400 meters (7:49.80), Austin Schlabach in the high jump (5-6) and Isaac Drake in the discus (118-6.5). Pro­ducing second-place results were Jacob McCoy in both the 100 meters (12.17) and long jump (16-10), and Mi­cah Wingard in the high jump (5-4).

Lakeland wound up with 42 points. Qwanell Gabriel’s third-place effort in the high jump (5-0) led the Lakers.
