Warriors sock Lakers, fall to Raiders

The Westview varsity baseball team split a pair of decisions late last week against area rivals Lakeland and Northridge.

Thursday night in LaGrange, the Warriors scored multiple runs in each of their five at-bats en route to a 19-2 drubbing of the host Lakers. Mason Wire plated four runs with a double and a single, while Matty Mortrud doubled twice, singled and knocked in three markers.

Additional offensive stars for the Warriors were Braden Kauffman with a two-run double and Jayce Brandenberger, Alec Titus and Gavin Engle all with RBI singles. Brandenberger also scored four runs.

Titus pitched all five innings for Westview. He scattered four hits, struckout eight and walked one.

Friday evening in Emma, Northridge pounded out 14 hits and took advantage of five Westview errors in posting a 14-8 victory over the hosts.

Max Horner carried the biggest Raider bat, driving in eight runs with a home run and three doubles. Korey Beehler knocked in a pair of runs with a single, Kade Sainz whacked a RBI triple, Gavin Collins poked a RBI double and Murphy Zimmerman lined a run-scoring single.

Titus plated two of the eight Warrior tallies with a single. Bontrager delivered a RBI single, Kauffman collected two hits and Jaxon Engle slammed a double.

Zak Martin, Kaden Plank and Qade Carrington all took turns on the mound for Northridge. The trio combined to fan nine and walk three.

Bontrager and Kylen Bender did the pitching for Westview. Between them the whiffed four and walked six.
