On October 25, 2025, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request at a residence located at 3035 S State Road 5 in Topeka. Upon arrival, deputies found the home secure and were unable to make contact with anyone inside.
A family member arrived shortly thereafter and entered the home, discovering the lifeless bodies of 70-year-old Rafael Flores and his wife, Deonecia Marroquin Flores, also 70 years old. In light of this finding, deputies and detectives returned to the residence to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Initial evidence points towards a murder-suicide, indicating that this tragic incident was an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the community. Authorities are now collaborating with the LaGrange County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana State Police to further investigate the matter.
