Therma-Tru Doors in Howe is planning a major expansion.
Last Monday, the LaGrange County Commissioners passed a resolution for a tax abatement for improvements at 8055 N. SR 9, requested by the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation. The $4 million project will include a 120,000-square-foot warehouse and will allow a workforce expansion of at least 60 employees, according to information provided to commissioners.
With the commissioners’ approval, the tax abatement request will be ruled on by the LaGrange County Council, which meets Monday, March 14, at 8:30 a.m. in the LaGrange County Annex Building, 114 W. Michigan St., LaGrange.
The 10-year abatement would provide 100% property tax relief the first year. The tax savings would then be incrementally reduced over the 10-year period.
The project is proposed by ATJ Real Estate Holding, Lansing, Michigan, to be built by James Ware Construction, Sturgis, Michigan. It was on this Monday’s La- Grange County Plan Commission agenda.
Therma-Tru started in 1983 in Toledo, Ohio as a fiberglass door innovator. It opened a manufacturing facility in Butler in 1985, and now produces doors in Butler and Matamoros, Mexico.
It is the nation’s leading manufacturer of fiberglass and steel exterior door systems, says its web site.
Therma-Tru leases a location at 509 Poplar St. in LaGrange in addition to the facility near Howe.
