The Ark Animal Rescue and Adoption

Four legs, a lick, and a wag

Luna – A senior female at 9 years old. A pom mix, a little timid, however her eyes are full of love and she desperately wants to share that love. Her fee is reduced due to her wisdom as a senior. Jonny – 99% German shepherd. He is about 3 years old, a stray. He is a typical shepherd, handsome and ready for a home. Amber – A female 99% German Shepherd. Jonny’s friend but does not need to have a home with him. She is heartworm positive but under treatment and Ark will continue to pay for her treatment. Fred – A poodle mix of sorts who really has eyes. Waiting on a trim to prove that. A stray that is about 4-5 months old. Daphie – A poodle mix found with Fred, his sister most likely. They could go together but do not have to. She also is waiting on a trim to prove she has beautiful eyes. If interested in these amazing animals or others call Ark Animal Rescue and Adoption at 260-463-4142 for an appointment. Needs are: M and L surgical gloves, a kitty pool, and salt at Lima Elevator. ( They will deliver and offer a discount when you call.) Toys for Christmas. In July at the shelter every dog will have an opportunity to pick out a new toy of their very own. You can participate by putting a toy at Miller’s Super Value, Farmer’s State Bank, Paws and Claws bookstore or the Chamber in Sturgis, Michigan. Help the shelter dogs celebrate! (Photo Contributed)

There was a dog. This dog’s name was Buffy. She lived at the Ark shelter. The letter below is from Buffy’s owner; he is now called Poppy. My town mom thought you might have a tear in your eye like she did when she read it. Thank you, Linda – Poppy’s mom.

“When was the first time you realized that your dog knew you were its owner?

I was at the kennel looking for a new dog. My last dog had died two months before and I really wasn’t sure I wanted another but there I was looking. So this one year old medium-sized yellow dog is trying so hard to squeeze through the gate to get to me. It tugged at my heart but I really wanted to make an educated choice so I kept looking at all the others. Finally, I went back to her and got to take her outside. She didn’t know how walk on a leash. Not much of a player. Just happy to be out of the kennel. I signed the papers and came back to get her two days later.

She wasn’t house broken. I took her to be evaluated for doggy daycare. She failed because she was too timid. They suggested that I take her to the dog park where she could learn to play with other dogs. At the park I realized she really didn’t care to play and she didn’t approach other people. I think that’s when the lightbulb went off. At the kennel she wanted me. When I picked her up that first day she ran right to me and put her paws on my lap. She wasn’t doing that with any of the people here at the park.

After going to the park for about a month I had her re-evaluated and she was accepted at daycare. And I’ve seen videos of her playing! At the park she’s still very hesitant with people. Except for one. This lady has a big yellow lab who my Poppy has a crush on. Poppy loves both Cooper and Robyn his owner. Go figure!

So anyway I guess you could say she knew she was mine before I knew I was hers.”

Linda, sometimes my town mom says dogs know best. Thanks for sharing the story and a picture of Poppy on the web site for you to take a look: www.arkanimalrescue.weebly.com. Look under Buddy’s antics.

Just a reminder about the toys for the dogs at Ark in July. Drop off a new toy at Miller’s Super Value, Farmer’s State Bank, Paws and Claws bookstore or the Chamber in Sturgis, Michigan. All dogs in July at the shelter will have their very own new toy for Christmas in July. I have my two toys already in the container at Miller’s. Join me in the fun.

Your ‘fur-ever’ friend,

Buddy
