After a nine-day layoff, the Lakeland varsity boys basketball team finally got back on the court last Thursday evening and dealt the visiting East Noble Knights a 64-46 setback.
Levi Cook tallied eight of his 12 points in the opening quarter, helping stake the Lakers to an 18-8 advantage. Keyan Arroyo, who would finish atop the Lakeland scoresheet with 20 markers, netted six in a 21-14 second period surge which left the hosts holding a commanding, 39-22 lead at halftime.
East Noble roared out of the break to score the first 12 points of the third quarter to shave the Laker lead to five (39-34). Triples by Alex Scott and Luca Benedict fueled the rally.
However, Lakeland responded by tallying 10 of the final 16 points of the stanza to rebuild its margin to 11 (49-38). Kyle Hartsough sank the final two buckets of the frame for the Lakers, capping off a nine-point night.
A three-point play by Keegan Merrifield and a deuce from Sam Keil to start the fourth quarter put the Lakers up by 16 (54-38). Merrifield finished the
