Lady Lakers edge Busco

Lakeland overcame a scrappy Churubusco squad and a three-point barrage by Lady Eagle guard Hailee Gaerte to post a 62-57 NECC girls basketball win in Turtle Town Tuesday night.

Gaerte, one of three seniors honored by Churubusco prior to the game, canned eight triples in the tilt, including four in the third period to help the Lady Eagles take a 46-45 advantage. Two more Gaerte treys late in the final frame earned Busco a 57-56 edge with 2:19 remaining.

Alivia Rasler restored Lakeland to a 58-57 lead with a basket at the 1:30 mark. Two free throws each by Rasler and Peyton Hartsough, along with consecutive turnovers by the Lady Eagles, allowed the visitors to escape with their fourth league win.

Hartsough poured in 26 points to pace Lakeland, which now stands 12-10 overall. She also contributed five assists and three steals to the winning attack.

Rasler had an fine all-around game, scoring 19 points, grabbing seven rebounds, making six steals, dishing out four assists and blocking three shots. Olivia Oman chalked up 11 points and Takya Wallace collected five assists.
