Frances B. Malone, 99, of Angola, IN and formerly of Shipshewana, IN, passed away at Lakeland Rehab Center in Angola, IN on May 7, 2025.

Frances was born on March 8, 1926, in LaGrange County, IN to John E. and Clela B. (Swogger) Shipe.

Frances spent most of her life in LaGrange County, where she was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She worked as a clerk at the former Brown’s Drug Store in LaGrange, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. A lifelong member of both the LaGrange American Legion Auxiliary and the Pythian Sisters, she was also an active member of the LaGrange Presbyterian Church. Frances stayed active in her later years by participating in Silver Sneakers classes at the local Steuben County YMCA. Her grandchildren will fondly remember her incredible culinary skills, especially her unforgettable apple dumplings, which were truly one of a kind. Just as lasting are the memories of family summers at the farm, spent playing in the corn bins and fishing at Buck Lake—times that will forever be cherished.

On July 4, 1943, in Norfolk, VA she married Robert P. Holcomb; he preceded her in death on June 12, 1975. On September 6, 1980, in Fort Wayne, IN she married Wayne H. Malone; he preceded her in death on March 7, 2011.

Surviving is a daughter, Debra Pontecorvo of Westfield, IN; a son, Bob (Rosemary) Holcomb of Fort Gibson, OK; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Holcomb of Tampa, FL; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Davis of Peoria, AZ.

Along with her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Barry Holcomb; a son-in-law, Mark Pontecorvo; and three brothers, Lloyd J. Randall, Marvin “Bud” Shipe, and Donald J. Shipe.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
