Dear Friends,
Hi Buddy, Sunny and Lolli
This is Barkus the heavenly Beagle sending you all “Season’s Greetings” On behalf of the “Heavenly Howlers” up here in eternity, we want to say we have heard you are retiring from writing your great weekly column. And we are all sad for that. We have really enjoyed reading the column each week. It was the highlight of our weekly “bark-in”.
But we also understand that where we are here it will always be eternal and perfect. Life on earth, on the other hand, has many changes and is not always perfect. We feel confident that you will find new, fun ways to share your creativity and excellent writing skills. Thanks for all you have done. Until we meet up here – yours in heavenly howling peace. Barkus and friends
Thanks Barkus, appreciate your stories and I will meet you one day and we can swap stories, just not too soon.
I was going through some old stories. Here is one of my favorites: I saw a monster in the woods this week. Gertie saw it too. You know we have really good eyes, and my town mom didn’t see it at first. I don’t know how she missed it; it was huge! It was right at the edge of the woods. It was round and black. I barked and barked and did a little growling. Gertie barked and barked, no growling. Guess her bark is loud enough; she doesn’t need to growl. We got closer and closer; this monster didn’t move. I thought something was wrong. Then it did move and stopped. That set off the barking. By this time, my town mom was closer to the monster. It moved again, then stopped. I heard her laugh. Laugh, I thought, this is a monster! Why is she laughing? It might stand up and show its teeth or, worse yet, come after Gertie and me. Then I heard her say, come on, kids, it is a black plastic bucket. Hum, I thought, here I thought I was defending us, being the tough guy, a plastic black bucket. No teeth, no standing up, no attack. Well, you just never know, and it is good to be ready. Ready I was! I might mention, too, I was closer to the monster than my 95-pound friend Gertie. Big dogs! Sometimes ya gotta wonder.
Merry Christmas to you! My town mom and the girl made cookies for my friends this Christmas. It was a blast. We have big bones, little bones, dogs, fire hydrants, and even some cats. They are pretty good, I got to sample some. Here is the recipe if you would like to try some. ½ cup of peanut butter, 1 cup of water, 2 Tbsp oil, 1 & 1/2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 & ½ Cup white flour. Combine peanut butter, water and oil. Add flour, one cup at a time, forming a dough. Knead dough into a firm ball and roll to 1.4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place on a cookie tray. Cook at 350 for about 5-6 minutes. Store treats in an airtight container for up to two weeks, or freeze. Enjoy! I’m not sure any storing will get done.
Your ’fur-ever’ friends,
Buddy, Sunny and Lolli
