The LaGrange County Commissioners passed an ordinance regulating the weight, size and use of vehicles on county roads at Monday morning’s meeting.
The ordinance is aimed at oversized loads that damage county roads as well as mailboxes and other private property.
It will be enforced by LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office with county engineer Tharon Morgan acting as administrator.
The commissioners passed an accompanying enforcement ordinance. First offense will be fined $500; second offense, $1,000; and third offense, $2,500.
Violations involving property damage could be fined $2,500 for a first offense, according to the ordinance.
The commissioners also passed an ordinance requiring permitting for development within county road right of ways. Morgan, as administrator, will create a fee schedule.
