Commission votes not to manage compost site

At their meeting Monday, members of the LaGrange County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously not to be a managing partner of the compost site at its current location.

The land is currently owned by the county, but operated by the Town of LaGrange.

Commissioners said if they were to take over management, the site would need to be moved, secured, and staffed with set hours.

Commissioners also agreed to a settlement agreement with Honeyville Metal, Hochstetler Holdings and Eden Worship Center for improvements at the corner of the properties on CR 900 W in Topeka.

The county has provided a plan to rework and expand the intersection of CR 400 S and CR 900 W in order to allow a turn radius sufficient for Honeyville’s trucks.

Also on Monday, commissioners approved an ordinance that will allow for staggered appointments to the Property Tax Board of Appeals, as opposed to a new board every year.

They heard from county clerk Kimberley Johnson with two requests. Commissioners approved a work schedule change for county clerk staff. The change will allow for a four-day a week schedule for staff, however, office hours will remain the same (8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Friday). Commissioners also approved a proposal with SBS Portals for the county clerk’s office that will allow for the scanning of paper files.

Also approved was a request from the IT department for eight tablets in the amount of $8,200.
