The fantastic rookie boys cross country campaign of Westview freshman Noah Bontrager took on even more luster this past Saturday when he ran to victory in the West Noble regional.
Bontrager pulled away from Leo standout Luke Shappell to win the race in a time of 15:45.19. Shappell took second in 16:04.55.
In the past three weeks, Bontrager has claimed blue ribbons in the NECC, sectional and regional competitions. This Saturday, he will attempt to add a semi-state title to his resume at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.
Joining Bontrager at IWU will be county runners Hank Glasgo of Prairie Heights and Caden Hostetler of Lakeland, both of whom snared individual semi-state bids with their regional efforts. Glasgo placed seventh overall in 16:45.93, while Hostetler finished 13th in 16:54.11.
Others garnering individual semi-state slots at West Noble were Conyer Wilson (Fort Wayne Northrop), Wyatt Neireiter (Churubusco), Pablo Sutter (Fort Wayne Dwenger), Brendan Nix (Fort Wayne Dwenger), Landon Knowles (DeKalb), Daniel Mullett (Columbia City) and Aiden Waugh (Homestead).

Fort Wayne Concordia won the regional team championship with 63 points. Carroll-Allen (110), West Noble (115), Leo (131) and Angola (138) finished 2-5 in the standings and also will compete as teams in the boys semi-state meet set to start at 11:15 a.m. Westview (163) and Lakeland (218) placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
The top six teams and top 10 individuals not on advancing teams in the semi-state will earn trips to the 2022 IHSAA boys cross country state finals set for October 28 at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute.
