Hawpatch Road work moves ahead

The Indiana Department of Transportation is expected to contract with HRP Construction, South Bend, on the $6 million Hawpatch Road project in LaGrange. The work will occur over the next two years, with a state grant covering $5.2 million and the town paying 20%, around $1.5 million. Second Saturdays return to LaGrange park

Second Saturdays return this year with entertainment and food at LaGrange Town Park. The free family friendly events will be held May through September on the second Saturday of each month, 6-8 p.m., hosted by the LaGrangeโ€™s parks department and local supporters. Tiny homes proposed at the edge of Shipshewana

A Shipshewana man is proposing LaGrange Countyโ€™s first tiny homes. The LaGrange County Plan Commission looked at site plans and talked to Joas Schlabach, who lives on 7 acres just outside of Shipshewanaโ€™s municipal territory. Berton Smith

Berton E. Smith, 86, of LaGrange, formerly of Topeka, died at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023 at The Waters of LaGrange. He was born on Dec. 26, 1936, in Kendallville, to Guy and Phyllis (McDaniels) Smith. On Dec. 21, 1956, in San Diego, California, he married Barbara Kay Swihart; she died Sept. 10, 2020. Terry A. Smith, 70, of Middlebury, died at 7:15 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury is handling arrangements.

Anna Schlabach, 80, of LaGrange, (district: 9), died at 4:33 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023 at her residence. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, is assisting the family with arrangements.
